Wendt & Kühn has stood for the finest German craftsmanship in its most beautiful form since 1915. The company, founded by Grete Wendt and Margarete Kühn, has been based in Grünhainichen, a village on the edge of the Erzgebirge Mountains, in the German state of Saxony.
Decade after decade saw continual furthering of the mastery and the craftsmanship of figurine production. Now in its third generation, the family company continues the work - first started 100 years ago.
A great brand with a great story behind it, which from the very beginning has stood for premium quality and artistic integrity, together with aesthetic taste and charm in every product. The figures and music boxes epitomize what everyone yearns for: harmony and childlike insouciance, kind-heartedness and security, natural cheerfulness and charismatic personalities.
Exclusive, timeless and valuable pieces for collectors and enthusiasts alike –as tasteful decorations and high-class gifts.
Angel with Balalaika
Grete Wendt designed her very first angel way back in 1923. Ever since, each delicate little green wing has been graced with eleven white dots – a trademark known around the world. This year the Angel with Balalaika has been awarded a permanent place in the large Grünhainichen Orchestra. The instrument played by this year’s new Angel Musician is best described as having just three strings and a triangular-shaped hollow body.
Owls are regarded as symbols of wisdom and prudence. Olly Wendt was fascinated by them, and in July 1926 she designed five enigmatic night owls. Three of them are returning to the collection in May, true to her original designs. Each owl in the trio is individually designed with playful details that give them their charm.
Richly Painted Angel, Large, with Violin (Red or Blue)
World premiere: These figures have never been shown before. The richly Painted Angels from Wendt & Kühn delicately stroke the strings of their violin. The use of translucent paint that makes the figurines so unique creates a sea of color which reflects the light in all directions. The form of the Angels was designed by the founder of the company Grete Wendt in April 1936, but the Angels have her creative design partner Olly Wendt (née Sommer) to thank for their exceptional coloration.
